My name is Brian A. Sharpless, Ph.D., and I am a licensed clinical psychologist trained at the University of Pennsylvania and Penn State University with over 20 years of experience. In addition to my practice, I am a published author and frequent lecturer on various topics of clinical psychology in the US and Europe. In addition to my psychology training, I have a MA in philosophy and incorporate philosophical insights (esp. continental philosophy) into my psychotherapy work and writings. From my perspective, some of the most brilliant minds in history have struggled with questions of meaning, purpose, health, and happiness, and they may still provide us with important insights.
Professional Therapy is Not an Open-ended Commitment
I consider the ultimate goal of any therapy to be no longer needing therapy. How long it takes to reach that goal is unique to each patient's needs, level of severity, and personal motivation.
