Clinical Supervision in Frederick MD

Welcome to my website!
If you are seeking general clinical supervision or time-limited consultation for a specific case in Frederick MD, please read on. If you are interested in other services, please visit my home page.
My name is Brian A. Sharpless, Ph.D., and I am a licensed clinical psychologist trained at the University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania State University. I have over 20 years of therapy and supervision experience. I am a published author on psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and various forms of psychopathology. I also frequent lecture in the US and Europe on various clinical topics. A good bit of my practice is devoted to providing professional supervision/consultation services in three main areas: (1) ongoing therapy supervision, (2) short-term therapy consultation, and (3) diagnostic training and supervision. I have the ability to work with clinicians in many states via PSYPACT.
Ongoing Therapy Supervision/Training
I have extensive experience supervising the work of therapists at various levels of expertise (i.e., from 1st year graduate students to post-docs and seasoned professionals). This involves ongoing general supervision for a clinician's entire caseload, training in a specific modality (e.g., various forms of psychodynamic therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy) or training to work on a specific clinical problem (e.g., borderline personality disorder; insomnia). I also give professional workshops on a number clinical topics (e.g., psychodynamic therapy techniques) for professional and lay audiences. A list of recent talks and workshops can be found here.
Short-Term Case Consultation
I provide short-term case consultations in areas of my expertise (e.g., personality disorders, sleep disorders, rare/unusual disorders). Consultations could range from one to several sessions depending on the nature of the problem.
Diagnostic Training and Supervision
I also offer training and supervision on diagnostic interviewing (e.g., through use of the SCID or ADIS) and differential diagnosis. This may take the form of workshops or individual instruction. I also have experience training and supervising diagnosticians for NIMH-funded clinical trials that required high levels of interrater reliability.
